1. Introduction
This report presents the outcomes of a collaborative research initiative between Assistant Professor Yessi Rahmawati from Airlangga University and Professor Keiichi Ogawa. Their research, funded by the Hyogo Prefectural Fellowship, investigates the interplay between environmental factors, technological access, public safety, and public health outcomes in East Java Province, Indonesia. This collaboration aims to provide insights that can guide policy and improve public health in the region.
2. Research Activities
December 2023 - January 2024: Gap Literature and Data Collection
The research commenced with an extensive literature review to identify gaps and establish a foundation for the study. This phase aimed to understand the current knowledge and pinpoint areas needing further exploration, particularly focusing on environmental impacts, technological infrastructure, and public safety's influence on health outcomes in East Java. During this period, data were collected from diverse sources, including government health statistics, environmental quality reports, and socio-economic data, to ensure a comprehensive dataset for subsequent analysis.
February 2024: Data Analytics
In February 2024, the research team focused on data analysis using the Methods of Moment Quantile Regression Analysis (MMQR). This technique was chosen for its robustness in handling diverse data distributions and providing a detailed understanding of how the studied factors impact different population segments. The analysis revealed critical insights into the relationships between environmental quality, technological access, public safety, and health outcomes.
March 2025: Seminar in JASID Kansai Branch
The research findings were shared at the JASID Kansai Branch seminar in March 2025. This seminar was part of the broader Campus Asia Risk Management Seminar series and featured a presentation by Assistant Professor Yessi Rahmawati. During the seminar, she elaborated on the study's methodology, key findings, and implications. This event was crucial for engaging with a broader academic audience and stakeholders, fostering discussions, and gathering feedback to refine the research. 3. Output of the Research
JASID Seminar as Dissemination
The seminar at the JASID Kansai Branch served as a vital platform for disseminating the research findings. Assistant Professor Rahmawati's presentation covered several pivotal points:
• Inequality of Urban Green Spaces (USGs): Highlighting the disparity between urban and rural areas in access to green spaces significantly affects public health.
• Health Outcomes and Internet Access: Demonstrating that better internet connectivity can reduce the frequency of illnesses by facilitating more efficient interactions between patients and healthcare providers.
• Impact of Crime on Health: Showing the detrimental effects of higher crime rates on community health, including increased substance abuse and heightened anxiety.
• Economic Prosperity and Health: Emphasizing the positive correlation between higher GDP and improved health outcomes due to better healthcare infrastructure and access to resources.
The seminar included an active Q&A session where participants engaged deeply with the presented material, providing valuable feedback and highlighting areas for further research.
Published Paper in Q2 Indexed Journal or B Level in ABCD
The culmination of this research is a paper that has been submitted to a Q2-indexed journal, known for its rigorous peer review and significant impact in the academic community. Alternatively, the paper is also considered for a B-level journal in the ABCD classification. The publication aims to contribute to the academic discourse on public health and environmental sustainability, offering evidence-based recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders in East Java and similar regions.
