The reason why I entered KIU is that they have wide range of study abroad programs and also I have a strong interest in different countries and a study abroad. I did a study abroad to Ireland for 4 weeks last year for the reason it becomes a plus in my future. Although I had learnt English since junior high school for 6 years, I could not express what I wanted to say well and felt frustrated, so I decided to improve my English to the level I can express more subtle nuances and emotions.
Having experienced a homestay, it was a great opportunity to learn cultural difference and fun at the same time. For example, I thought it was very cheerful and positive to celebrate someone’s birthday properly no matter how old they become.
There were 5 students from Brazil in my class and they were actively talkative in spite of grammar mistakes. I felt I would like to be able to say my own opinion without fear. Students from Brazil were aiming to enter a university or get a job in Ireland after finishing a language school and I was influenced by their global point of view and attitude. By following them as a role model, I would like to learn not only English but also an Australian culture and a sense of value in order to work for a tourism industry in my future.
Two months have passed, so l’ve had good experiences. I feel lonely for the first time, but I spend good time every day.The first experience is that I could make friends from other countries. It was difficult for me to approach in English because I was afraid that what I said is correct or incorrect. But I wanted new friends, so I tried to approach to my classmates. Now, I have a lot of friends from other countries. By talking with my friends, I can know each cultures and think that Japan is wonderful.
Also,I’m enjoying homestay life. My host mother always sings and dances with songs. Meals made by her is very delicious, so especially I’m looking forward to eating dinner after school.I experienced many different things for two months. A few months left and I will study hard to improve English skills.
I gained English skills to communicate with people from other countries over six months. I change a little as a person as well. I studied English in more depth by speaking up in class, so I could have fulfilled days. I obtained confidence to talk to people by practicing, writing, listening and speaking and I was able to make the most of daily life. When I didn’t know which bus I should get on, for example, I asked people and got it smoothly. Also, I can say my opinions, so I took actions actively in class even though my pronunciation or grammar may not be clear.I have a great deal of experiences I can’t forget, especially, I travelled alone to go to Sydney and Ayers Rock for four days. I met many people such as local people and tourists and talked to them, so everything was new and exciting because I heard the story I didn’t know. All in all, I realized that I have improved my skills enjoyed communicate with people. Although they aren’t perfect yet, so I want to keep study English to not forget.
