As a chemistry major, organic chemistry is not an option; it's a must. My first introduction to organic chemistry could be described by one word: challenging. I almost cried whenever I studied for organic chemistry tests. Once I had survived this crisis, organic chemistry has become one of my favorite areas of study. Furthermore, I decide to be an organic chemist like Akira Suzuki, a Japanese organic chemistry specialist. Japan is famous for its study of organic chemistry. I want someday to study organic chemistry in depth in Japan. Therefore, I strongly believe that I could improve my Japanese through the Year in Japan program during the summer, which would be a good stepping stone for my future studies in Japan. Moreover, living with Japanese host family will be a good chance for me to experience and learn about Japanese culture. Through this experience, it will help me to have a better understanding of Japanese culture and a good preparation step for my future study in Japan.
