Following the visit to Ebisu Shrine I can now appreciate and understand the influences behind the Japanese Shinto way of life. I am aware Japanese ways of life are unspoken customs and are inter-generational. Having this deeper understanding I am able to identify moments during everyday life whereby these customs were being implemented subconsciously. Upon reflection I too were starting to demonstrate subtle Shinto practices, for example; bowing to other tour members and giving thanks for food.
As I return to my home country and future classroom I will embrace respectful culturally responsive practices.
