Having been deeply interested in Japan since childhood, I have long dreamed of experiencing life there and immersing myself in its culture and scenery. The moment I began learning Japanese, the idea of studying abroad in Japan came to my mind. I had always focused on grammar and reading, yet I felt at a loss when talking with native speaking teachers from Japan, communicating with them in halting Japanese. I gradually realized that learning only from textbooks is far from enough. For a language, strong written test skills alone are of limited practical use. I actively applied for Japanese study abroad programs. Though I failed last year, I did not give up and finally obtained my qualification to study in Japan this year. Before departure, I had many conversations with my native speaking teacher and his family. They gave me plenty of encouragement, helping me let go of my fear of imperfect Japanese. I now dare to speak up and strive to sound more natural. I hope that over the coming year, living in a Japanese speaking environment, I can greatly improve my speaking and listening skills, so that I will be able to communicate smoothly with native teachers after returning home.
