I am deeply grateful and excited to be given this opportunity to study in Japan. Learning the Japanese language has long been a dream of mine. To actually live in Japan and study directly from native speakers while being immersed in their daily life, for me, is the best way to learn the language. This experience will contribute greatly to my academic growth and even more so to my personal growth. As someone who has never lived outside my home country, I am sure that there will be a lot of challenges along the way, but I am eager to face them and learn everything I can from the experience.
What makes this opportunity even more special for me is the chance to bring it all back home. When I return to Trinity University of Asia, I look forward to sharing everything that I will be picking up from this experience, not only the language, but also the admirable Japanese culture. I hope to encourage others to also explore and appreciate the beauty and diversity of Japan, and perhaps even inspire them to begin their own learning journey. For me, this experience will not only give me a chance to fulfill a personal goal, but also a chance to give something back to the community that has given so much to me.
My experience as an exchange student at Kobe International University has been a deeply meaningful journey, and I'm incredibly grateful for the experiences I had.
With the help of my very patient Japanese language teachers, I was able to learn basic Japanese over the past year. I was even fortunate enough to be introduced to basic kanji which I truly enjoyed. Through our everyday lessons, daily conversations, and special school trips, I was blessed, not only to learn about Japanese culture, but also to gain a broader understanding of the diverse backgrounds of my classmates.
During my stay in Japan, I was given the opportunity to experience many “firsts”. Coming from a tropical country, witnessing the transition of the four different seasons was a very memorable experience. When I first arrived, I was amazed to see the leaves slowly turning from green to a vibrant red in the winter. I also had the opportunity to see falling snow and to try skiing for the very first time it was a truly magical moment for me. By the time spring arrived, I was able to see the beautiful cherry blossoms in full bloom. This was something I had only seen in movies and photographs before.
Learning about Japanese history was also incredibly enriching. As an international student, Japanese history initially felt complicated, but the teachers explained everything so thoughtfully and clearly that I was able to follow along and really enjoy the lessons. I particularly enjoyed the weekly assignments that asked us to relate Japanese history and culture to that of my country. It gave me a chance to think a little bit deeper about the similarities and differences between Japan and the Philippines.
I am really looking forward to the upcoming Hiroshima Peace Journey. Knowing that Japan is the only country to have endured the tragedy of an atomic bombing, I hope this journey will allow me to quietly reflect and deeply understand Japan’s sincere dedication to peace. It will truly be an experience that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
As my time as an exchange student at Kobe International University draws to a close, I find myself savoring each remaining moment of this unforgettable chapter. None of these experiences would have been possible without the HUMAP scholarship. I am deeply grateful to have received this scholarship, which has allowed me to embark on a journey that has not only enriched my academic life but also broadened my perspective on the world in ways that I will cherish forever.
