Opportunity of the studying abroad, purpose

My future dream is to work in the United States and involve in the travel industry. I haven't decided specific job, but I want to do travel business such as advertising or planning for the trip. America is one of the countries with the most foreign tourists, so I will be able to get involved in travel for people from more different countries. To realize my dream, I need to learn not only English but also communication studies and business. Augustana College offers various kinds of special classes such as how to communicate with others with different cultures and advertising strategies. Also, I hope it will be a great opportunity for me to live in the U.S. for a year when I am a college student because I can prepare for my future and broaden my knowledge about America.
Now, my major at college is English, so I want to skill up the language level to the business level. I will communicate with people actively in English and acquire high-level English skills.
These are the reasons and purposes why I want to study abroad in the United States.

Experience while studying abroad

It has now been six months since I studied abroad. I am taking classes mainly in business and communication studies, and I feel that there are far more reading assignments and group presentations than at Japanese universities. The major challenges I faced during my study abroad were the Model United Nations Conference in the U.S. and a three-month internship at an American media company. It was not easy mentally to actively participate in Model UN conferences and internships among Americans, but the accepting culture made it easy for me to speak up. Once again, taking on a big challenge allowed me to directly feel firsthand the generosity of Americans and their culture of acceptance of differences, which further deepened my love for America. I feel that I am in a very fresh environment where I can be involved with people of various nationalities in my daily school life and constantly absorb new knowledge and ways of thinking.

Results of study abroad, future goals

During my study abroad, I was able to explore fields that I hadn't studied at my university in Japan, which greatly broadened my perspective. I primarily took business courses such as marketing and statistics. Despite initially having a weak understanding of math and handling data, I achieved the top scores in my class on every test in my statistics course. The marketing classes were particularly unique; we were required to devise marketing strategies for real companies and present them to the company's representatives. This not only deepened my knowledge of marketing but also taught me how to apply that knowledge practically. Additionally, these classes led to new experiences, such as taking on a marketing internship with a local company.

In the future, I aim to leverage these experiences by working for a company that acts as a bridge between Japan and overseas markets. Ultimately, I aspire to work abroad and contribute to enhancing the presence of Japan and Japanese companies globally.
