Ever since I was young, I have always wanted to go to Japan. Thanks to anime, I had the opportunity to have a closer look at many beautiful scenes of Japan and gain knowledge about Japanese culture. After four years at university, I have obtained my Japanese language skill as well as an understanding of the culture, history, and many other things related to Japan. However, due to the influence of the pandemic, I hardly found any opportunities to interact with Japanese people. Therefore, to improve my language skill, I chose Japan to study abroad. If I can come to Japan, the things I learned in class and textbooks will be finally applied to real life. The University of Marketing and Distribution Sciences is well-known for its modern facilities and a full range of international exchange programs. Were I to be put in that environment, it would be possible for me to overcome language barriers and improve my communication skills by talking with native speakers. As for achieving my goal to become an interpreter, I think it is best to observe and learn from different communication styles and expressions of Japanese people.
Aside from studying Japanese, I also want to be exposed to Japanese culture. Things such as castles, calligraphy, and kendo have always been fascinating to me. I plan to visit Osaka Castle, Himeji Castle, Shitennoji Temple, etc. to get a closer look and be immersed in their historical stories. What’s more, I look forward to participating in exchange meetings which are mentioned on the website of the University of Marketing and Distribution Sciences. At those meetings, not only can I become acquainted with Japanese and international students but also get the chance to introduce Vietnamese culture and traditional food to them.
After my study in Japan, I hope that it can help to enhance my adaptation skill and broaden my mind. Life alone in a foreign country may encounter many difficulties such as language barriers and cultural shock, but I have no other choice than to overcome it myself. I think this will polish me, making me more confident, observative, and flexible in thinking.
