Opportunity of the studying abroad, purpose

Motivation:
My research interest is in Surfactant and Polymer Science dealing with their nanoscale solution chemistry. For which, we procure commercially available, very expensive polymeric samples. Tuning the polymer constitution based on our interest for desired applications via effective synthesis route is not possible at our end. This incented me to start reading more scientific papers and boosting my scientific curiosity in the direction of polymer synthesis. Later I realized, working with renowned Professor Shin-ichi YUSA, Associate Professor at Department of Applied Chemistry, Graduate School of Engineering, University of Hyogo (UoH) will be more ideal looking at his high skilful expertise and great research publications in field of polymer synthesis.

Purpose of visit:
Besides the possibility of exploring all those state-of-art equipment, and methodical processes about this field, working in collaboration with Professor YUSA will surely strengthen my critical thinking, and develop new perspectives on Polymer research. After knowing about HORN fellowship from him, I submitted my proposal to HORN which got accepted in 2023. Under this scheme, I have come UoH for one month (01/06/2023 to 30/06/2023) visit. Though the working period is very limited but still I will work at my extreme with him to generate a fruitful scientific collaboration.

Experience while studying abroad

Mentioning about the topography of Himeji city, it is the 26th largest city and 252nd best city to live in Japan and ranks 1045th (TOP 11%) in the list of best places to live in the world. This wonderful city is surrounded by mountains and the sea; is blessed with a mild climate and natural beauty. The city has realized excellent cultural characteristics through its long history with Himeji castle town, Shosha mountain to name a few. Exploring this city with these distinct features made my stay worth.
Talking about my working experience at University of Hyogo in Department of Applied Chemistry was extremely conducive. Assoc. Prof. Shin-ichi YUSA is very helpful and kind. I personally find myself learning a lot from him, especially in the field of stimuli responsive polymer synthesis. Knowing the fundamentals involved in the polymer synthesis has helped me to understand the criticality of the process. I want to specifically emphasize on the generous assistance from his dynamic research team in pursuing my experimental work easy during my stay. With Assoc. Prof. YUSA’s high skilful expertise and great research contribution in field of polymer synthesis, hope the work imbibed here turns out to into fruitful collaborative research publication.

Results of study abroad, future goals

The prestigious HORN fellowship program offered me an excellent opportunity to do something exceptional that includes study in polymer synthesis, and research to advance work on this issue. It diversified my research skill and critical thinking ability towards my proposed work plan. It provided me a time to refine my research goal. Though the time proposed is too short to achieve anything big. However, I gained the hands-on experience on various sophisticated instrumentation facility at University of Hyogo during synthesizing the stimuli responsive block copolymers. The outcome of this research as collaborative publication will be a real achievement. Though will take some time.
