There are two factors to decide studying abroad in France.
Firstly, I want to grow up through studying abroad. I study Economic and Management in English at the University, but I'm not so good at English. Therefore, I often faced with some difficulties. However, those difficulties helped me grow such as improving English skills in addition to acquiring the knowledge of Economic and Management. Likewise, I think that I will face with a lot of difficulties while studying abroad, but I think that they will also be a source of my own growth.
Secondly, I want to study a lot of things other than Economic and Management. I'm really interested in art because I want to work for the company that is related to some art. There are various arts in France and I will be able to see them by myself. I believe that I can get precious experiences that I cannot get in Japan. In addition, I want to study French. I studied it as a second foreign language at the University, but I could not study enough because the period was limited. I think studying French will be useful for my future, and I can be a person who can think something from various perspectives.
For those reasons, I decide to go to France for studying abroad.
Since it is a short period of 10 months in my precious university life, I would like to actively participate in the class and gain various experiences without regrets.
It's been more than 6 months since I've lived in France.
At first, I was worried about life here since everything is totally different from Japan, for example language and cultures. However, I got used to it through spending time in France with my friends.
Here, the lectures are more focus on discussion through the group work or role play than classroom learning, which is the biggest difference between Japan and France. In addition, it's quite important to state my opinions during the class because we discuss something based on our opinions. Besides, professor give us grades depend on attitude to participate the discussion. It's difficult for me to explain my opinions or feeling in front of the others since there are few opportunities to state your opinions during lecture in Japan and I don't used to it. In addition, I'm not confident in English or French, which is also one of the reason why I'm not good at expressing my opinion. However, since I came to study abroad and I think that I cannot grow up without doing anything, I try to challenge myself with the spirit that it doesn't matter to make a mistake.
Like Universities in Japan, I have long vacations such as winter vacation and spring vacation, so I travel to various European countries during that period. I'm able to gain precious experience from that because I can enjoy various cultures or languages, which are different from Japan or France. Also, I found that local people are so kind that they always helped us when we were in trouble.
I have only a few months left to study and live in France, but I still have a lot to do. I want to enjoy each day without wasting it.
It was like a dream during my 11 months of study abroad.
Before my departure, I was filled with anticipation and anxiety. The first day, I felt impatient because I couldn't understand French at all. One day, I felt stressed and depressed. One day, I had a good laugh over an unimportant conversation with my friends. One day, I was so happy that I enjoyed my favorite arts. One day, I enjoyed traveling. The last day, I cried because it was so hard to say goodbye. I have a lot of unforgettable memories in France.
I think I can say this because my study abroad experience was fulfilling. By being proactive, I made many friends from all over the world. In addition, I was able to communicate with local people in French, which I could not understand at all before my departure, although it is not perfect.
By putting myself in an environment where there are no Japanese people, I was able to realize that what I had taken for granted before was actually not the normal, and I was able to think about things from a new perspective.
I have a big goal for the future. It is to "bring excitement to the world through Japanese culture." By studying abroad, I was able to realize not only the good aspects of French culture, but also the bad aspects of Japanese culture. I have set this goal because I want people overseas to know more about the good aspects of Japan and to be interested in Japan.
I would like to become someone who can convey the charm of Japan to the world in any way I can.
