Studying abroad opens a world of opportunity not only academically, but also personally and culturally. A program such as this is promising as a transformative journey, allowing one to step beyond familiar environments and into a space that fosters growth, adaptability, and global awareness. It offers a chance to see education and the world through a new lens, engage with fresh perspectives, and develop a broader understanding.
Japan stands out as particularly unique and enriching. The country presents a fascinating blend of centuries-old traditions alongside cutting-edge innovation. From the captivating beauty of its landscapes to the excitement of modern cities, Japan offers a vibrant, multifaceted experience. As someone interested in both the cultural depth and technological sophistication of the country, I see Japan as the perfect place to challenge myself academically while also expanding my cultural horizons.
I am especially drawn to the way Japanese society emphasizes precision, respect, and community. Experiencing this firsthand, not just as a visitor but as a resident and student, would offer invaluable insights. I look forward to learning the Japanese language more deeply and immersing myself in everyday life - from traditional ceremonies and local festivals to simple daily routines - to truly connect with the people and traditions that make Japan so unique.
Studying in Japan through an exchange program is more than just an educational experience—it is a journey of discovery. It’s a chance for me to become more open-minded, be globally competent, and contribute to society in meaningful ways. I am excited by the possibility of contributing to and learning from this incredible cultural and academic exchange.

As I am writing this, I am halfway through my 1-year program in Japan. Having moved here from Bangladesh in September 2025, the past 6 months have been an amazing learning experience. Many things in Japan have been different than in my home country. While the rhythm of daily life feels different, I have gladly embraced the local norms, community, culture, and way of life. As I continue onwards, I have found that I have grown as a person, and have learnt to value steady, consistent effort.
Academically, there is a lot I have learnt already while working on multiple projects. My work has involved applying cutting-edge machine learning techniques to advance diagnostic efforts in medical cases of cesarean scar disorder, lung diseases, pelvic fracture detection and more. It is rewarding to know that my contributions can have a positive impact in people’s lives. Working in a professional environment has also helped improve my standards and work ethic, to be a more organised version of myself. It has also taught me how to accept constructive feedback and translate it into clearer, meaningful progress.
Outside of research, I have been enthusiastically exploring life in Japan. At the university, I joined the volleyball club where I improved my skills, made great friends, and practised teamwork and leadership through regular training. I have also taken the time to explore local festivals, including the Minato Fireworks Festival, Autumn Harvest Festival, Nada no Kenka Festival, Oni Slaying Festival, the Lunar New Year Festival, and many more, which have enriched my understanding of local customs, traditions, and history.
I have also been fortunate to explore both the energy of cities like Osaka, Kobe, and Tokyo, as well as the quieter atmosphere of the countryside such as in Fukusaki and Tottori. In the cities, I was struck by how efficiently everything runs; the packed trains, bright streets, and endless food spots somehow feel busy but organized at the same time. In the countryside, life feels slower and more open, with wide landscapes and a stronger sense of close-knit community. Experiencing both has helped me appreciate the balance in Japan between fast-paced ambition and quiet simplicity, and how each setting reveals a different side of daily life.
Overall, these first six months have been a period of steady growth academically, culturally, and personally. I look forward to the remainder of the program: further advancing my research, taking part in more local events (and finally experiencing cherry-blossom season), and deepening the connections I have made. I hope to return home not only with stronger technical skills but also with a more holistic understanding of life that I can share in Bangladesh.
