The reason why I wanted to study abroad was because I wanted to find a job where I can be active overseas in the future. I also wanted to study abroad because I was working part-time at a hotel and sometimes had a hard time dealing with many foreign guests in English, and I wanted to be able to deal with such guests smoothly and find a job where I can be active on a global scale in the future.
I also had the regret of abandoning my plans to go abroad to study in high school due to the Corona disaster, so I made this decision because I strongly wanted to study abroad while I was still a student. I have been working part-time and communicating with people from overseas on a daily basis, and I have come to think that I would like to live among them.
Communicating with people from other countries has often helped me feel more positive about myself, so I wanted to experience it in a foreign country.

Through my academic study abroad experience at the University of Canterbury, I learned not only language skills but also the importance of having a serious attitude toward learning. In class, I studied topics such as education and intercultural understanding, and I had many opportunities to organize and present my ideas. One of the most memorable classes was about New Zealand’s education system and multicultural society. By comparing them with Japan, I realized the importance of looking at issues from multiple perspectives rather than from only one point of view. In addition, through group work with local students, I learned a great deal about how to express my opinions and how to work cooperatively with others. At first, I felt nervous about speaking in English, but with the support of my teachers and classmates, I gradually became more confident and active in class. This study abroad experience taught me the value of continuing to learn independently, and I hope to apply this lesson to my future studies and career.

I had many valuable experience during my 10 month study abroad program.
I became more confident in speaking English and I’m no longer afraid to talk with people. This is one of my biggest achievements. I also became more friendly and active in communicating with others.
I made many friends from different countries and enjoyed cultural exchange with them. Through this experience, I learned to respect different values and ways of thinking. I studied hard with my classmates and encouraged each other, which helped me stay motivated.
Sometime, life abroad was difficult, but I learned how to think and act by myself. Living in another country helped me become more independent and responsible. I believe this experience will be useful in my future.
After this study abroad experience, I want to work in a job where I can use English, especially in a hotel. I’ll keep improving my English and work hard to achieve my dream
